The month of July is surrounded by red, white and blue décor – flags, dishes, clothing, food and numerous other objects. Walking into almost any store this month, you will find a red, white and blue display in the forefront. I happen to be one who enjoys the beautiful combined colors which bring memories of happy times and puts a smile on my face. Around the 4th of July, I try my best to wear these colors and represent well. The combination of these words as a unit generally refers to the magnificent flag of the United States of America. We have an immense appreciation for our flag. We understand that the stripes represent the 13 original colonies, and the stars represent the 50 states of the union. However, there is also a symbolism of the colors – red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue symbolizes, vigilance, perseverance and justice. These are the outstanding qualities that our country was built upon. But what does red, white and blue signify in the Bible? It is an interesting analogy. A common concept is that red represents the blood Jesus shed on Calvary. White represents His purity, and blue represents the waters of baptism. It is a beautiful way to remember how our sinless Savior sacrificed His life for us and also the path we are to follow. It is a picturesque scene to observe our lovely flag being whisked back and forth in a gentle breeze, and I immediately feel a love and appreciation for what it represents. It is a sincere desire of mine that my life, my behavior, and my appearance would also represent Jesus well. In an era which often lacks appreciation for what is good and righteous, lets stand up with respect for the red, white and blue, naturally and spiritually. Honor our flag. Honor our godly spiritual leaders. God bless America, and God bless each of you! |
